Founded by Lord Kaiaphas in 2006, Thokkian Vortex is an international black metal band combining Nordic black metal, symphonic, progressive and dark-ambient elements. Before forming the band, Kaiaphas fronted Ancient from 1995 to 1998, contributing vocals, drums, lyrics and music to The Cainian Chronicle and Mad Grandiose Bloodfiends; since 2023, he has performed with Ancient as a live vocalist.

Thokkian Vortex’s third album, Lucifer Lucem Proferens, was released by Folter Records in November 2025. The current six-member lineup brings together experienced musicians associated with Ancient, Aborym, Iku-Turso and other established extreme-metal acts. The new lineup will make its live debut at Under the Black Sun Festival in Germany in July 2027.
